CULTURAL DIVERSITY MATTERS!!

CULTURAL DIVERSITY MATTERS!!

As my major paper for my Introduction to Administration class I chose the topic Cultural Diversity for several reasons. First, because I am Brazilian. Second, because I had the opportunity to work with people from all parts of the world, and I do understand the ups and downs of dealing with cultural diversity, particularly I understand the tremendous value each culture possess and I acknowledge each culture worth.

For this assignment I ready many books from Dale Carnegie and John C. Maxwell. Dale Carnegie in his book Dale Carnegie's Scrapbook (1959, p.154) wrote a reflection on cultural differences which I appreciate very much and would like to share with you all:

"Do you feel that you are superior to the Japanese?
The truth is that the Japanese consider themselves far superior to you. A conservative Japanese, for example, is infuriated at the sight of a white man dancing with a Japanese lady.
Do you consider yourself superior to the Hindus in India?
That is your privilege; but a million Hindus feel so infinitely superior to you that they wouldn't befoul themselves by condescending to touch food that your heathen shadow had fallen across and contaminated.
Do you feel you are superior to the Eskimos?
Again, that is your privilege; but would you really like to know what the Eskimo thinks of you? Well, there are a few native hobos among the Eskimos, worthless bums who refuse to work. The Eskimos call them "white men" - that being their utmost term of contempt.
Each nation feels superior to other nations. That breeds patriotism - and wars.
The unvarnished truth is that almost every man you meet feels himself superior to you in some way; and a sure way to his heart is to let him realize in some subtle way that you recognize his importance in his little world and recognize it sincerely".

DALE'S WORDS IS A CRITICISM TO ANY NON-CONSTRUCTIVE ACTION FROM ANY PERSON OF ANY CULTURAL BACKGROUND. IN THE END, CULTURAL DIFFERENCES SHOULD NOT BE RELEVANT BECAUSE WE ARE ALL EQUAL HUMAN BEINGS.  CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE ACQUIREMENT DIMINISHES PRIDE.

On the subject of "Search Engines"...

Recently my husband and I adopted a little dog named Hope. Hope is a mix of Basset Hound and Labrador. So I decided to find out more information about Hope’s background and used Dogpile.com for my search (I never have used this search engine before!!). The search was focused on, image, video, and sound. Here are the results:

Search terms: Basset Hound and Labrador
There were more than 15 pages of images, videos, and sounds. It was my first time using this website, and I was very pleasant with the experience. The only downside is the fact that Dogpile.com doesn’t provide the number of total findings for a search. It only lists the amount of pages containing the information requested. I really appreciate the tool “Are you looking for” which is an alphabetical list containing more search terms related to your search.  You can have an illustration of what I am talking about by accessing this link http://www.dogpile.com/search/video?fcoid=417&fcop=topnav&fpid=2&q=basset+hound+audio&ql=, or by viewing the picture bellow.  NOW IT IS YOUR TURN!! FIND A SEARCH ENGINE YOU NEVER USED BEFORE AND START EXPERIMENTING A LITTLE BIT! IT IS LOTS OF FUN!!
